James Michael Tyler. Tyler was best known for his role on “Friends” as Gunther. Tyler, the general manager at Central Perk’s coffee shop, died from cancer on Sunday. He was 59.
Tyler, who was diagnosed with an advanced form of prostate cancer in September 2018, became an advocate for others with the disease, his manager, Toni Benson, said in a statement.
“Michael loved live music, cheering on his Clemson Tigers, and would often find himself in fun and unplanned adventures,” Benson said. “If you meet him once, you will be a friend for the rest of your life ” Tyler was Gunther, a barista who has a crush on Rachel. He was also seen in “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” as well as other TV movies.
While he was undergoing treatment, Tyler starred in two short films, “The Gesture and the Word” and “Processing,” Benson said.
